There are a lot of funding opportunities out there that prospective and current nursing students can use to pay for their education. Here is a list of some scholarships and helpful educational resource opportunities provided by companies, organizations, and foundations available for qualified students pursuing a career in health care.


Health Professional Scholarship Program (HPSP)

The Health Professional Scholarship Program (HPSP) provides financial assistance to students receiving education or training in a direct or indirect health-care service discipline (Title 38 and Hybrid Title 38 occupations); and assists in providing an adequate supply of such personnel for the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). Summer Health Professions Education Program (SHPEP)

The Summer Health Professions Education Program offers an educational opportunity for first- and second-year college students interested in exploring a career in the health professions. The program’s focus is on increasing the diversity of health professionals. The career tracks include dentistry, medicine, nursing, optometry, pharmacy, physical therapy, physician assistant, and public health. 


Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA)

Nurse Corps Loan Repayment Program offers funding to registered nurses (RNs), advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs), and nursing faculty for payment of their qualifying educational loans. To learn more, click here.

Nurse Corps Scholarship Program offers a nursing scholarship through a grant, which pays tuition, fees, other education costs, and a living stipend to students in accredited RN training programs. In exchange, upon graduation, scholars work for at least two years at a facility, such as a health center, rural health clinic, nursing home, or hospital, that has a critical shortage of nurses. 


National Healthcare Heroes Grant for Nurses

This grant will go to an aspiring or current nurse to aid with the cost of their tuition or student loans. All levels of nursing education are eligible for this award, including current nursing students, recent nursing graduates, and aspiring nursing students. To learn more, click here.


University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC)

The School of Graduate Studies in the Health Sciences at UMMC offers stipends, scholarships, and tuition opportunities to Ph.D. in Nursing students. To learn more, click here.


The Foundation of the National Student Nurses’ Association Promise of Nursing Undergraduate Scholarships

The Foundation of the National Student Nurses’ Association Promise of Nursing Undergraduate Scholarships – For students enrolled in state-approved schools of nursing or pre-nursing in associate degree, baccalaureate, diploma, generic doctorate, and generic master’s programs.


Indian Health Service Scholarship Program (IHS)

IHS Scholarship Program awards up to $40,000 in loan repayment to health professionals in exchange for at least two years of service in health facilities serving American Indian and Alaska Native communities.


Mississippi Nurses Foundation (MNF)

Mississippi Nurses Foundation provides scholarships, stipends, and grants to nursing students and registered nurses throughout the state of Mississippi who is pursuing degrees in nursing.


Mississippi Tuition Assistance Grant (MTAG)

The Nurse Retention Loan Repayment Program (NULR) is designed to retain new nurses in Mississippi by helping them repay their student loans. To learn more, click here.


National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN)

NCSBN's Regulatory Scholars Program advances the field of nursing regulation by building regulatory experts and researchers, providing high-level evidence for nursing regulatory and policy decision-making, and encouraging scholarly dialogue and publications. To learn more, click here.
