Beverly Oliver, MBA, MSN, FNP-BC, CHFN serves as a Family Nurse Practitioner part-time at Ridgeland Medical Clinic. She received a Liberal Arts degree at Hinds Community College and went to Mississippi College and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. She was in both college bands as a feature twirler and rifle guard. She then worked as a Registered Nurse, mostly in critical care. Beverly served on many committees and as Assistant Manager. As a preceptor, she enjoyed mentoring new graduates.

She also worked with Hollister as a Medical Sales Representative. She then completed her MBA from Mississippi College in 1994. After twenty-four years of bedside nursing, Mrs. Oliver decided to go to Mississippi University for Women where she earned a Master of Science in Nursing degree as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP).

She was a trail blazer being the first FNP at St. Dominic Medical Hospital in the Cardiovascular and Cardiology area. There she improved Healthgrades Scores through process changes and managing Core Measures for Heart Failure and Myocardial Infarctions. From there, Mrs. Oliver was also the first FNP to have a clinic as Sole Provider. As a Chronic Care Clinic, she followed Heart Failure and Coumadin patients. Earning a Certification in Chronic Heart Failure (CHF) has increased her knowledge in chronic care.

While working in the clinic she and the team developed a Heart Failure Booklet and updated the Recipe Booklet for CHF along with forms/handouts to make it easier for patients to record their data at home. During this time, she and the team earned the Nightingale Award for Nurse Team of the Year. The Chronic Care Clinic was chosen to conduct a research project on a CHF drug used in the clinic.

At the 10th Annual National Conference of the American Association Heart Failure Nurses, Mrs. Oliver presented a Nurses Poster Presentation where she received a People’s Choice Award in Los Angeles, California. From there she worked at St. Dominic clinic for Homeless and Underserved patients. Working in the community in Jackson, Ms., she earned a Certification in Community Fellow Research where she also received a grant for the study of Hypertension in Adolescence.

With COVID came many changes in clinics and hospitals. The clinic closed during this time. During COVID, she refreshed her critical care skills and worked in a COVID Intensive Care Unit with many FNP and RNs. From there she works as a FNP at Ridgeland Medical Clinic where she worked in the Diabetic Clinic and Medical Clinic. Mrs. Oliver earned another Certificate as a Diabetic Lifestyle Coach.

Mrs. Oliver also served on the Mississippi Nurses’ Association on the Executive Board as Secretary and she is also very active in the local District. She is also on the Ms. Nurse’ Foundation Board. As a Central Ms. Preventive Comprehensive Cancer Control Board member, the focus is on cancer prevention conducting educational talks and educational material.

Mrs. Oliver is very active in her community, schools and church during her many years in Clinton. To make a difference in the community, she decided to jump into politics and won as an Alderwoman in Ward 5 in Clinton. “Learning and trying different arenas of life increases your knowledge overall.” Mrs. Oliver volunteers with many organizations in her adult life. “Giving back and helping others is what we were called to do” She has presented many topics
